At the end of each academic year, the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Dean for Undergraduate Studies, and the Dean of the Graduate School recognize outstanding graduate instructors and teaching assistants at the University of Maryland. A reception is hosted in their honor in May at the Atrium of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union, and each awardee is presented with a certificate recognizing his or her contributions as a Distinguished Teaching Assistant (DTA).
Distinguished Teaching Assistants (DTAs) are selected by the department chairpersons. Because this award is meant to honor the most outstanding graduate instructors and teaching assistants, CTE asks that only the top ten percent of graduate instructors and TAs in a department be nominated. Specific nomination criteria are at the discretion of the individual department.
Nomination calls are sent to all department chairs by CTE in April, 2013. If you have any questions, please contact CTE's Coordinator of Graduate Student Programs at (301) 314-1287.
